The Friends of North Bruny Annual General Meeting was held on 18 October 2025 at the Dennes Point Hall, bringing together a strong and engaged group of members, guests and observers. With more than 30 attendees present, the meeting reflected the ongoing commitment of our community to caring for North Bruny and its unique environment.
All committee and office-bearer roles were filled with unanimous support and acclamation. We extend our congratulations to the incoming team:
- Chair: Jan Richards
- Vice Chair: Simon Allston
- Treasurer: Walter Truesdale
- Secretary: Siobhan Gaskell
- Public Officer: Alex Matysek
- Committee Members: Lindon Haigh, Peter Schwartz, Tim Brown and Jane Winter
We also acknowledge and thank all outgoing committee members for their contribution over the past year.
A review of membership fees was undertaken, and in recognition of our current financial position the meeting resolved that fees will remain at existing levels for 2026:
- $15 for individuals
- $25 for families
- $5 discount for Centrelink Card holders
Following the formal meeting, members gathered for a very special moment, the introduction of the inaugural Gerard Castles Oration.
Jan Richards opened the session, followed by heartfelt reflections from Alex Matysek and Essie Davis, who shared personal insights into Gerard’s life and his deep connection to Bruny Island. Their words painted a vivid picture of Gerard’s contribution to our community and the legacy he leaves behind.
We were honoured to welcome Dr Tonia Cochran OAM as the first orator, delivering What Makes Bruny Island and Tasmania so Special. Her thoughtful address set a high benchmark for what we hope will become a cherished annual tradition.
